Among the endless onslaught of flaxseed smoothies, reiki healers, biomagnetic therapies, sound baths and turmeric concoctions, the holistic approach to overall wellness has never been more en vogue. A trend that probably started with green juice after yoga class in Los Angeles later became Health Goth in New York, a sweeping aesthetic that meant dressing like Kylie Jenner on a shopping-for-the-paps day, pairing a green juice with a black spandex ensemble, black Yeezy's, and a "dad hat."
However, aside from our somewhat maddening tendency to reduce the ancient wisdom of other cultures to a series of outfits and overpriced retreats, the holistic approach to medicine, and wellness in general, is important given the current state of our country. Ravaged by prescription medication addiction, obesity from fast food, and widespread alcohol and cigarette use, America could use a perspective outside the multi-billion dollar corporations who make people sick to sell them pills that make them sicker.
According to WebMD, "Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness." Basically, if one part of you is sick, the rest will be thrown off balance, affecting your overall vibe. The primary goal of holistic medicine is to gain a total balance, and thus total wellness.
This, unsurprisingly, falls perfectly in line with cannabis's ability to link plant cannabinoids with our internal endocannabinoid system, a series of cell receptors found all over our body that seek to bring us to homeostasis, controlling everything from our ability to sleep and mood fluctuations to memory retention, and pain tolerance. Cannabis's effect on the endocannabinoid system is part of the reason the plant is so effective in treating innumerable bodily ailments. Here are some cannabis products to aid you in your quest for total holistic wellness. Plus, who doesn't like getting stoned before yoga?
For Meditation: Hmbldt's Calm Pen
Named one of TIME's best inventions of 2016 under the title, "Cannabis That Could Replace Pills," Humbldt's line of pre-filled dose pens are game changing. With 200 doses in each pen (2.25mg of THC per dose), in varieties such as Sleep, Calm, Bliss and so forth, they've engineered their cannabis oil by utilizing terpenes and cannabinoids like CBD and THCa to make you feel a certain way without getting super stoned, the main concern of those who want to reap the medicinal benefits of cannabis but can't be high all the time. With Hmbldt, any ailment is now curable by simply inhaling for three seconds.
In my experience, the most difficult part of meditation is chilling the fuck out long enough to shut off your mind and transcend to a meditative state. Calm has high CBD and anti-anxiety properties, combined with the calming effects of myrcene and balancing influences beta-caryophyllene and limonene. The effect is inner peace, and isn't that all we've ever wanted anyway?

For the Sauna: Rad Soap's Kryptonite Skin Detox Bar
In addition to being socially fun and relaxing, regular trips to the sauna are known for flushing toxins and cleansing the skin, among other things. But what about after, when all those flushed toxins are sitting on the surface of your skin?
Continue your detoxifying flush with Rad Soap's Kryptonite Skin Detox Bar, the perfect après-steam companion. Matcha tea, reishi mushroom, tea tree oil, calendula, chamomile, hemp seed oil, rosehip, French green clay, and grapefruit combine their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, hydrating and collagen boosting properties to form one of the best soaps I've ever used in my life. Your skin will thank you.

For a Deep Tissue Massage: Blood Orange WOW Candle
However beneficial, deep tissue massages can be extremely painful. While incorporating topical oils to combat the sensation of having your muscles pounded into oblivion by someone named Raven is nothing new, Wow Candles kick it up a notch.
The Blood Orange WOW Candle is one of my all-time favorite cannabis products, winning Best Topical at the 2016 Cannabis Cup for a reason. When you light the wick, the room will fill with the intoxicating scent of orange blossoms, and the THC in the coconut oil activates, liquifying to a serum that is not as hot as wax. THC is better absorbed in the skin when heated, so pour directly on the body for a wholly euphoric experience. The first time I used one, I actually said "wow," upon feeling it's melty, amazing effects. Their branding ain't no joke.

For Yoga: Canndescent's Cruise No. 203
When it comes to the art of getting stoned before yoga, picking a strain with uplifting effects is key. Getting out of bed before nine is already all but impossible (for me). Add that to rhythmic breathing, chanting, and long bouts of child posing, and ya girl just might pass the fuck out.
Canndescent's beautiful line of flower is part of an emerging trend in cannabis where companies focus on offering consumers an experience rather than branding with strain names and technical terms, which can be opaque and confusing to a first-time user. Energizing the body while calming the mind, their variety Cruise is the perfect complement to a morning yoga class, with its tagline on their website stating, "Keep up the pace, relax your mind, and sail through the day with Canndescent Cruise." The beautifully-packaged kit comes with everything you would need for a first-time user: an 1/8th of flower, papers with crutches, matches, and a hemp wick to boot.
